Jessie has a different life story than most students. She is a migrant child in Shanghai, meaning her family is not a proper locally registered household under the China law and she is thus deprived of the right to be admitted to a local grammar school like many other Chinese students in Shanghai. This disadvantage has hindered her chances in acquiring some core knowledge on subjects such as Mathematics and Physics. Despite all these obstacles, Jessie did not only work extremely hard on her studies but also contributed herself in many different kinds of volunteer activities for years. Her passion and devotion finally earned her an opportunity to study at United World College of the Atlanta in the UK in 2013 with full scholarship.
We were impressed with her perseverance and talent and thus accepted her as our sponsorship student so that we can guide her through our unique college admission advisory service. Given her family situation, we found her sponsors who are lovingly generous in helping people like Jessie. Our counsellor and senior advisors have offered her detailed advice on college majors and career choices, and helping her to set up and follow through key milestones for a two-year period.
“GRTalent helped me in this tough college application process and guided me towards better, clearer aims.” Jessie shared her appreciation towards our guidance.
The most crucial but challenging task is to look for schools which would likely provide financial aids to Jessie as an international student. Our counsellor spent extensive effort to explore and discuss with her the best college options, coached her how to tell her special story in writing for the personal statements as well as for the scholarship application essays.
“I could still remember every moment in the last summer that we called each other every week to discuss my personal statement, to modify and improve my college list again and again, and to share the sadness and happiness after I got the result notice from the colleges applied.” Jessie recalled her experience working with our Education Counsellor.
It was a time-consuming but rewarding process for Jessie. All the efforts are proven to be worthwhile as she was accepted by a number of prestigious colleges in Canada and US, namely Macalester College, University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University and Minerva Schools, all with entrance scholarships. After consulting with us, Jessie decided to pursue further education with University of British Columbia (“UBC”) for the Bachelor of International Economics and Master of Management Dual Degree Program. UBC has awarded her the “International Leaders of Tomorrow” full scholarship. We in GRTalent are very pleased with Jessie’s relentless effort in pursuing her dreams and reaching a new page of her life. We wish her every success in her college experience.
